Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris (born October 20th, 1964) was an American politician, attorney and vice president of the United States. She is the first woman to hold the vice-president and the highest ranking female politician in U.S history. As a member the Democratic Party, she was the attorney general of California from 2011 to 2017 and a United States senator representing California in 2017-2021. Harris was born in Oakland, California. She graduated from Howard University as well as the University of California Hastings College of the Law. Harris began her career at the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Then she was recruited to join the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003, she was appointed the San Francisco district attorney. Harris was elected Attorney-General of California in 2010, and was elected again in 2014. Harris was the United States junior senator from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Santiago in the 2016 Senate election, becoming the 2nd African American woman to serve in Congress , and the only South Asian American American to serve in the United States Senate. She was a senator and campaigned for reforms to healthcare as well as federal cannabis de-scheduling the possibility of citizenship for undocumented immigrant immigrants and the DREAM Act, a ban against assault weapons, as well as progressive tax reform. The sharp questions she asked Trump officials in Senate hearings earned her national attention, including the second Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh who was indicted with sexual assault.
