Barbara Ann Corcoran
Barbara Ann Corcoran, born March 10, 1949, is an American businesswoman and investor. She is also a public speaker and consultant, a columnist syndicated to a speaker, author, and TV presenter. In 2001, she established The Corcoran Group in New York City. She later sold the company to NRT for $66 million. Then, shortly after, she exited from the company. One of the show's first "Shark" investors, Corcoran has appeared in all 12 seasons of ABC's Shark Tank until now. She has been involved in 53 deals as of February of 2020. The biggest was a $350,000 investment that will provide 40 percent of Coverplay. Corcoran was second child in a family of 10 children, and was raised in Edgewater. Florence, her mother was an errand-taker. Edwin W. Corcoran Jr. was her father. He moved from one job to the next throughout Corcoran’s childhood. At times, her family relied on the delivery of free food from a friendly local grocer. Corcoran recalls her father, who was a drunk at times too much, and behaved towards her mother in a manner that was disrespectful and condescendingly, especially after he'd had some drinks. Corcoran was a struggling student in school. Later, she discovered she had dyslexia. Corcoran was educated at a Catholic elementary school and then enrolled in high school in Englewood at St. Cecilia High School. Corcoran who was in the process of failing many classes during her first year of high school, was transferred to Leonia High School. There she received a grade of D.
